Combining the attention to detail of the singer-songwriter with the exploratory essence of jazz, Josh Womack creates a music that is memorable to the casual listener, while remaining rich in texture, Womack's repertoire runs the gamut from folk to funk to roots to world. At any given time, the listener may hear the influence of songwriters such as Lyle Lovett, Paul Simon or Willie Nelson. On some of the funkier and heavier material, strains of Stevie Wonder, The Meters or even Black Sabbath can be noticed. All of these elements are rounded out by roots-based stylings similar to artists such as Taj Mahal, Darrell Scott, Grateful Dead and Jason Isbell.
Lyrically, Josh approaches every song as a stand-alone vignette. Varied themes and diverse subject matter create snapshots of universal human experiences, reflective personal disclosures, moral stories and social commentaries.
